Fittingly, for the 60th year of Independence, an Indian is pitted against a Pakistani on the six-book shortlist for Britain's prestigious Booker Prize. This is the first time in the 50,000-pound Booker's nearly 40-year history that Indo-Pak neighbourly rivalry has perforce entered new, literary territory.
